Tom Flanagan’s outrageous public comments about child pornography have mostly stopped attracting mainstream media coverage, but the horrifying truth about child pornography persists. It is everywhere around us, every day. Today, a 54-year-old woman from suburban Houston, Texas was sentenced to 25 years in prison on child pornography charges. The evidence in her case is heartbreaking. Investigators found photos of a naked, nine-year-old girl who is “related” to the woman, who was sexually abused and tortured.
Some people have come to Tom Flanagan’s defence today, over his remarks about child pornography. They are misguided in supporting him, even when they attempt to contort this into a debate about free speech or academic freedom. Our history in this country, when it comes to the sexual abuse of children, is so horrendous, so appalling, that there can be no debate about whether child pornography, regardless of how or when it is consumed, is terribly damaging and worthy of jail sentences. It is one component in a continuum of exploitation and degradation. Consumers of child porn are complicit in a life-destroying criminal enterprise that has been concealed, rationalized and underreported for decades, perhaps centuries. The consumption of child pornography cannot be extracted and isolated from this continuum, to somehow insulate the consumers from the horrors done to the children captured in the images.
UPDATED JAN. 14 Kingston Police announced early this morning that Davidson-Brown had left Kingston. They didn’t say where he was headed.
The case of child sex predator Eric William Davidson-Brown (inset) drew a torrent of attention on my social media channels. Since I posted his photo and the details announced by police of his release to Kingston, Ontario, the post has been shared more than 3,000 times and, by late on January 13, had drawn nearly 200 comments. I was surprised since Davidson-Brown isn’t really an unusual case. There are hundreds similar ex-convicts living on the street in Canadian communities every day.
(UPDATED Dec. 10 – Prof charged in child porn case commits suicide). A Napanee man who worked as a children’s entertainer and who was charged with sex crimes and child pornography offences two months ago was snared in a massive, global child porn sweep, investigators have revealed. Police in Toronto announced Wednesday that 25 Canadians, including 40-year-old Randy Miller (inset), have been arrested and charged in an investigation spanning two continents that shut down a network of men who were producing child porn and trading images and videos of children being abused. Among those nabbed was a professor from York University in Toronto, who is accused of manufacturing child pornography.
Police allege that a man who entertained children in the Kingston and Napanee areas in eastern Ontario for 20 years has been preying on “very young” victims. Provincial police have charged Randy Edward Miller, 40, with sexual assault and sexual interference in connection with the abuse of a young boy. Miller has worked as a clown at festivals, fairs and private parties and he has volunteered with Boy Scouts in Napanee.
Hundreds, maybe thousands, of families in eastern Ontario are no doubt plumbing their memories anxiously, trying to remember if their child ever was left alone with Honker the Clown. The man with the big yellow shoes and a knack for fashioning fabulous creatures from balloons was charged today with child pornography offences after an online undercover police probe. Honker, aka Randy Edward Miller, 40, of Napanee, a town of 15,000 just west of Kingston, Ontario, is charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making child porn available, though the police probe isn’t over.
Michael Briere raped and murdered 10-year-old Holly Jones because he was consumed with desire after looking at child pornography. Paul Bernardo was driven by deviant fantasies of torturing women. He murdered teenagers Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy and raped dozens of other women. Selva Subbiah drugged and raped hundreds of women to feed his sexual perversions. Now these predators have something in common. They’re together in the same miserable cellblock of maximum-security Kingston Penitentiary that houses the lowest of the low, the sex offenders, child molesters and killers who can’t survive among their own kind.
The allegation that Arthur Sayler (above), a Canadian living in Mexico, is a key figure in a continental child pornography ring, is “plain false,” according to a person who claims to be Sayler’s sister.
“Art is not a pedophile and is not interested in child porn let alone a ring leader for something huge,” the writer states, in an email sent to me recently. The writer claims she’s Karen Arbez, a Canadian sister of Sayler, who was arrested by federal police in Tijuana, Mexico in late June.
